Riddle me this:

I titled this photo “Riddle me this” The reason is…….I made this photograph in June of 2011 in the city of Florence Italy. I could be mistaken but this looks like some type of Asian Characters to me. It certainly does not look like any Italian I’ve ever seen in print. Anyway…….I’d love to know for sure what language it is and what it says. Given of course it is a language and does have meaning.
